Please take care and drive slowly on the Byersteads Road - it is a short stretch, but it is a twisting and narrow road. |
The St Bees Maize Maze can be found 1/2 a mile northwest of St Bees village. If you are coming from the Lakes, head West on the A66 to Cockermouth and join the A595 for Whitehaven. Travelling South on the A595 follow the directions for Whitehaven. As you approach Whitehaven, continue on the A595, by-passing Whitehaven. At the traffic signals continue straight ahead, then at roundabout head to Barrow and Egremont. Turn right at the signpost for St Bees and Sandwith onto Mirehouse Road. Follow this road alongside the housing estate, up the steep hill and over the staggered junction signposted Kells, Sandwith. At the top of the hill turn left for Sandwith, continue on this road for 1 mile passing the chicken farm and you will arrive at the maze on your right. If you are travelling North on the A595 go straight through Calderbridge then after heading up the hill after the large roundabout, still on the A595, take a left turn onto the B5345 signposted Beckermet, St Bees. Continue on this road for 4 miles until you get to St Bees. Head through the village, over the railway, round the twisted corner past the church and the school and on leaving the village bear left at the fork in the road onto the Byersteads Road. The maze is on the left hand side just under a mile on this road.
